UNPROTO.sys Version 7.4h
APRS sets your ALIAS to RELAY and your Unproto path to APRS VIA RELAY so that
all NEW users report their position via their neighbors. This should only be
TEMPORARY until you find your best DIGI (or neighbor), then use his exact CALL
not RELAY. Mature APRS nets should install good WIDE area digipeaters that are
WIDEly separated. These WIDEs should have the dual aliases of WIDE and RELAY
so that mobiles can use the path of RELAY,WIDE whether they are near the digi,
or on the fringes near someone's home station. FIXED stations should rarely
use RELAY in their path since users midway between any two RELAYS will ALWAYS
hear collisions. Use the TAB key to show your current path.
FIXED STNS - Set to RELAY, until you see other stations, then use CALLS
- Never use WIDE,RELAY or RELAY anywhere except the 1st hop
MOBILES - Mobiles can go via RELAY,WIDE
ON HF - Set your path to via GATE,WIDE if you want to be GATEd into
EVERY VHF network nationwide. To hit your own gateway and
local digi, use GATE,DIGIname.
Do NOT digipeat on HF unless its an emergency
The OPS-DIGI command can save up to 13 different paths for quick access.
